Rockies 2, Giants 1
Carlos Gonzalez tripled in the tying run in the ninth inning and scored on an errant relay throw as the Colorado Rockies rallied for a 2-1 victory over the host San Francisco Giants on Monday night.
Dexter Fowler walked to lead off the ninth against Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez and Gonzalez followed with a triple to right-center field off San Francisco closer Brian Wilson.
The relay throw from San Francisco’s Freddy Sanchez skipped past third baseman Pablo Sandoval and bounced into the seats, allowing Gonzalez to score.
The blown save was the fourth in 40 opportunities for Wilson (3-2). Rafael Betancourt (5-1) picked up the win and Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
San Francisco’s lone run came in the fourth inning when Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell drew back-to-back walks and Huff scored on Buster Posey’s single to left center.
Both starting pitchers were superb. Sanchez scattered five hits and two walks while striking out six for the Giants and Colorado’s Jorge De La Rosa allowed one run and four hits in seven innings.
