Marlins 4, Brewers 0
Chris Volstad extended his scoreless innings streak and Mike Stanton homered as the Florida Marlins topped the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 on Saturday night.
Logan Morrison and Gaby Sanchez drove in runs for the Marlins (77-77), who got back to .500 in their attempt to post a third consecutive winning season to match a franchise high.
Volstad (11-9), who pitched a five-hit shutout against the St. Louis Cardinals in his last start, extended his scoreless innings streak to 15 2/3 frames in this contest. The right-hander carried a three-hitter into the sixth but departed with two outs in the seventh after yielding three hits. However, Jose Veras retired George Kottaras on a liner to center field to end the threat.
Volstad did not walk a batter and struck out two in extending career highs with his fifth straight win and 11th overall.
Leo Nunez logged the eighth and Clay Hensley closed out Florida's 16th shutout with his sixth save after allowing a pair of two-out singles by retiring Craig Counsell on a flyout to center.
Florida reached Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson (11-9) in the first inning when Cameron Maybin led off with a base hit, stole second and scored on a base hit by Morrison, who had his 42-game streak of reaching base safely end on Friday.
Stanton extended the lead to 2-0 with his 21st home run of the season in the seventh and Sanchez plated an insurance run in the eighth with a single.
Narveson allowed just the two runs and six hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Casey McGehee had one hit for the Brewers, who were held to eight hits after exploding for 29 runs and 47 hits in their last three games.
