Brewers 3, Cardinals 2

Casey McGehee hit a two-run homer and Dave Bush pitched six strong innings as the Milwaukee Brewers topped the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Tuesday.

Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart each scored a run for the Brewers, who have won three of five.

McGehee was the only player in the contest who managed multiple hits, chipping in a pair of singles to go along with his 19th blast of the season.

Prince Fielder’s double-play groundout pushed Weeks across with the first run of the game in the fourth and then McGehee followed by touching rookie Jaime Garcia for a shot to deep center to push it to 3-0.

Garcia (10-6) was not charged with any earned runs but still suffered the loss, allowing five hits while striking out five in six frames.

Bush (6-10) yielded just four hits while striking out three in his outing, surrendering the lone run on Albert Pujols’ 31st homer of the season.

John Axford retired Matt Holliday with the tying run on second to end the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 18th save.

The Cardinals have dropped three straight.
