Mets 1, Pirates 0

Nick Evans drove in the winning run with a pinch-hit single in the 10th as the New York Mets outlasted the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-0, on Monday.

Ruben Tejada got the rally started with a one-out double off Chan Ho Park (1-2) before Evan pinch hit for pitcher Hisanori Takahashi (9-6). Evans took a strike before driving the 0-1 pitch into left field, plating Tejada with the game’s lone run.

The Pirates had a chance to take the lead when Andrew McCutchen led off with a double, but McCutchen broke for third base on Jose Tabata’s groundball and was throw out on the fielder’s choice.

Rookie Dillon Gee worked the first six innings for the Mets, yielding five hits while walking four and striking out three. The 24-year-old right-hander has now surrendered one run and seven hits in 13 career major league innings.

James McDonald was even better for Pittsburgh, lasting eight scoreless frames while allowing just five hits and striking out four. He has not given up a run in 15 innings over his last two starts.
