Mets 9, Pirates 1
Angel Pagan and Carlos Beltran drove in three runs apiece and R.A. Dickey turned in another strong start as the New York Mets pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 on Tuesday.
Nick Evans hit a solo homer and Jose Reyes drove in a run for the Mets, who have taken the first two of a four-game series.
After battling to a 1-0 victory in 10 innings on Monday, New York wasted no time getting its offense going on Tuesday, pushing across a run in the first on Pagan’s single and two more in the second on Pagan’s double off Zach Duke.
Beltran and Evans got to Duke (7-14) again in the third, each bashing a solo homer to push it to 5-0.
The Mets kept the pressure on in the fourth, putting the game out of reach with Reyes’ RBI single and a two-run double from Beltran.
That was more than enough for Dickey (11-6), who allowed just three hits and one run while walking three and striking out four in his second complete game of the season.
