Brewers 8, Mets 7 (Game 1)

Prince Fielder had the decisive RBI single in the eighth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers squandered a six-run lead but rallied for an 8-7 win over the New York Mets in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Fielder and Lorenzo Cain each had three hits and two RBIs for the Brewers, who scored six runs in the third inning against Mets starter Jonathon Niese. Corey Hart added two hits and two RBIs, driving in the tying run with a single in the eighth.

Niese lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits.

Lucas Duda and David Wright homered in the Mets' five-run fourth against Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo, who gave up seven runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings.

Carlos Villanueva (2-0) worked a scoreless seventh for the win, and John Axford pitched a perfect ninth for his 23rd save. Manny Acosta (3-2) took the loss.
