Eric Patterson’s single in the 10th inning scored Bill Hall with the winning run as the Boston Red Sox rallied to defeat the New York Yankees 7-6 in the second game of a doubleheader at Fenway Park Saturday.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Red Sox. New York fell into a tie for first place in the American League East with Tampa Bay with just one more day to play.
The Red Sox tied the game 6-6 with a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Daniel Nava’s infield single drove in one run and the tying run came across on a bases-loaded walk to Kevin Cash.
Felipe Lopez homered and had three hits for Boston. Robinson Cano had three hits for New York.
Robert Manuel (1-0) picked up his first major league win for the Red Sox pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
Ivan Nova (1-2) took the loss. He allowed a leadoff double to Hall in the 10th inning.
The Yankees won the first game 6-5 in 10 innings.
