Giants 3, Phillies 0

Matt Cain threw eight scoreless innings to outduel Cole Hamels and Cody Ross continued his hot hitting, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Championships Series on Tuesday at AT&T Park.

The Giants lead the best-of-7 series 2-1.

Cain (1-0) was dominant from the start, allowing only two hits and three walks while striking out five, and closer Brian Wilson took over in the ninth, working around a one-out single by Jimmy Rollins for the save.

Hamels (0-1), who tossed a five-hit shutout against Cincinnati in his only previous start this postseason, also was sharp. He allowed three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out eight and walking one.

San Francisco finally broke through against the left-hander with two runs in the fourth. Ross, who hit three home runs in the first two games of the series, gave the Giants the lead with an RBI single with two outs in the inning and Aubrey Huff followed with another single to make it 2-0.

The Giants added a run in the fifth when Chase Utley's error on a ground ball off Freddy Sanchez's bat allowed Aaron Rowand to score.

San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner and Philadelphia's Joe Blanton are scheduled to pitch Game 4 on Wednesday in San Francisco, but the Phillies could elect to bring ace Roy Halladay back on short rest.
