Giants 6, Phillies 5
Rookie Buster Posey had four hits and two RBIs and Juan Uribe drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday at AT&T Park and moving the Giants within one victory of advancing to the World Series.
Roy Oswalt (1-1), who threw eight innings of one-run ball to win Game 2, took the loss in relief, allowing singles to Aubrey Huff and Posey in the ninth before Uribe's deep fly ball to left scored Posey with the winning run.
Posey, who was 1-for-11 without an extra-base hit in the series entering the night, drove in runs with a single in the first and a double in the third for a 2-0 lead.
The Phillies batted around in the fifth, scoring four runs against starter Madison Bumgarner and reliever Santiago Casilla. Placido Polanco's two-run double to left-center off Casilla gave Philadelphia the lead, and Shane Victorino scored on Casilla's wild pitch to push it to 4-2.
Huff's RBI single in the fifth pulled the Giants back within one, and Pablo Sandoval gave San Francisco the lead with a two-run double off Chad Durbin in the sixth.
Jayson Werth's RBI double in the eighth off Sergio Romo tied it at 5.
Neither starter got out of the fifth inning. Bumgarner allowed three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings, and Joe Blanton gave up three runs on five hits over 4 2/3.
In a rematch of Game 1, Philadelphia's Roy Halladay and San Francisco's Tim Lincecum are set to pitch Game 5 on Thursday night in San Francisco.
