Yankees 6, Rangers 5

Robinson Cano homered in the seventh and had an RBI single in a five-run eighth inning as the New York Yankees rallied for a stunning 6-5 victory over the host Texas Rangers in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Friday night.

Alex Rodriguez ripped a two-run single and Marcus Thames drove in the go-ahead run with a broken-bat single as the Yankees erased a 5-0 lead and beat the Rangers for the 10th consecutive time in the postseason.

Dustin Moseley (1-0) pitched two innings for the win and Yankees closer Mariano Rivera worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for the save.

C.J. Wilson had shut down the Yankees on one run and four hits through seven innings before Brett Gardner led off the eighth by beating out an infield single to trigger the decisive rally.

That spelled the end of the night for Wilson and the Yankees then tore through Texas' bullpen, which used four relievers before recording an out.

The Rangers had pounced on Yankees ace CC Sabathia when Josh Hamilton ripped a three-run homer in the first inning.

Michael Young added a two-run double to make it 5-0 for the Rangers, who knocked out Sabathia after four innings - his shortest outing of the season.

Cano, who had three hits, finally got the Yankees on the board with a solo blast in the seventh inning off Wilson.
