Giants 9, Rangers 0

For all the talk about dominant pitchers this postseason, Matt Cain has been better than any of the big-name aces, and he showed it again Thursday.

Cain threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings, Edgar Renteria drove in three runs and the San Francisco Giants won Game 2 of the World Series 9-0, taking a 2-0 lead over the Texas Rangers as they seek the franchise's first title since the New York Giants won it all in 1954.

Cain, who hasn't allowed an earned run in 21 1/3 innings over three starts during the playoffs, gave up only four hits and two walks before leaving with a runner at second and two outs in the eighth. Left-hander Javier Lopez got out of the inning by inducing a fly ball to center from Josh Hamilton.

For most of the night, Texas left-hander C.J. Wilson was nearly as good as Cain. He allowed only two hits before Renteria blasted a solo home run down the left-field line with one out in the fifth.

After walking Cody Ross to lead off the seventh, though, Wilson left the mound while examining a blister on his throwing hand.

Ross moved to second on Aubrey Huff's groundout and Juan Uribe, whose three-run home run was the key hit in a six-run fifth inning in Game 1, drove him home with a bloop single off reliever Darren Oliver to give Cain a bit more breathing room.

Wilson was charged with two runs on three hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Renteria added a two-run single in the Giants' seven-run eighth inning in which Rangers relievers issued four consecutive two-out walks, including a pair with the bases loaded. Pinch-hitter Aaron Rowand added to the big inning with a two-run triple.

Texas right-hander Colby Lewis and San Francisco left-hander Jonathan Sanchez are scheduled to pitch Game 3 on Saturday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
