Athletics 5, Red Sox 0

Brett Anderson threw eight shutout innings and the Oakland Athletics snapped the Boston Red Sox' three-game winning streak with a 5-0 victory Tuesday night.

Only one runner reached second base against Anderson (1-1), who allowed four hits, one walk and struck out eight.

John Lackey (1-2) pitched his best game of the season, but was tagged with the loss. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out three as Boston (5-11) fell to 0-7 on the road.

Oakland (9-8) scored the only run it would need in the first inning. Coco Crisp singled, stole second and scored on a fielder’s choice by David DeJesus.

The A's added four insurance runs in the eighth as Daric Barton, Hideki Matsui (two-run double) and Kurt Suzuki had RBI hits.

Boston manager Terry Francona was ejected for arguing a non-balk call in the fourth inning after Dustin Pedroia was caught stealing.

Three of Boston's hits off Anderson came in the eighth inning, but an unusual double play helped keep the Red Sox off the scoreboard when Mike Cameron was called for interference on catcher Suzuki after he struck out while Jacoby Ellsbury was stealing.
