Dustin Pedroia’s two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning led the host Boston Red Sox to a 9-5 victory over Jered Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.
Pedroia's hit up the middle on the 13th pitch of his at-bat gave Boston a 3-2 lead and handed Weaver (6-1) his first loss of the season.
Boston blew the game open with six runs in the seventh to make a winner out of Clay Buchholz (2-3), who allowed eight hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Adrian Gonzalez had a three-run double and David Ortiz blasted his third homer of the season in the seventh for Boston.
Vernon Wells homered and Bobby Abreu had two RBIs for the Angels. Weaver allowed three runs as his ERA rose to 1.39 from 0.99.
