Red Sox 14, Tigers 1 (8)
The visiting Red Sox demolished Detroit 14-1 Thursday afternoon in a weather-shortened game and have now outscored their opponents 88-42 in winning 11 of 13. From an 0-6 start, Boston now sits six games over .500 (28-22).
Jacoby Ellsbury capped a five-run second inning with a three-run homer, Carl Crawford added two triples and three RBIs, and converted reliever Alfredo Aceves allowed one run over six innings to improve to 2-0.
Boston scored seven runs in the first two innings after tallying seven in the first inning Wednesday against Cleveland.
Max Scherzer (6-2) took the loss for the Tigers, who have dropped five straight to Boston.
The game was called in the eighth inning after a lengthy rain delay.
