Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 1
Clay Buchholz pitched seven strong innings and Adrian Gonzalez continued his torrid pace with two hits and two RBIs as the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to a season high-tying seven games Friday with a 5-1 road triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Dustin Pedroia had three hits and an RBI after missing one game with a sore knee as Boston improved to 4-0 on its nine-game road trip.
Buchholz (5-3) retired the first eight batters he faced and limited Toronto to one run and three singles in ending a streak of four straight no-decisions. The righthander, who is 4-0 over eight starts since a loss at Baltimore on April 26, walked two to extend his run of fewer than three free passes issued to nine outings.
Pedroia drove in the game's first run with a single in the third off Blue Jays starter Jo-Jo Reyes (2-5), extending both his hitting and RBI streaks to five games.
Gonzalez, who entered the day tied with Milwaukee's Prince Fielder for the major league lead in RBIs with 55, plated a run in the fifth with a single and another with a double in the ninth. Gonzalez has driven in at least one run in seven consecutive contests and notched a hit in nine of his last 10.
Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista saw his homerless drought reach 12 games. The league leader with 20 blasts, Bautista also has gone 10 contests without an extra-base hit.
