Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 7
Travis Snider collected three doubles and two RBIs as the Toronto Blue Jays got to John Lackey early and held on for a 9-7 road victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon.
Aaron Hill had a homer among his three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Toronto while Brandon Morrow (5-4) notched his third straight win despite yielding four runs in five-plus innings.
Snider capped a four-run third with a two-run double that gave the Blue Jays a seemingly comfortable 7-0 lead. But Red Sox All-Star Jacoby Ellsbury hit a two-run triple and scored in the fifth, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia did the same in the eighth to draw Boston within 9-7.
Frank Francisco allowed a leadoff single by Ellsbury in the ninth before striking out the side for his 10th save of the season in 14 opportunities.
Ellsbury finished 4-for-5 for his third multi-hit performance in four games for Boston, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Lackey (5-8) was tagged for seven runs and nine hits in just 2 1/3 innings. He has surrendered 20 runs over 15 frames in three outings against Toronto this season.
Boston's Kevin Youkilis left the game in the fourth after being hit by a pitch in his upper back.
