Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 4

Jacoby Ellsbury and Kevin Youkilis homered and doubled twice to lead the host Boston Red Sox to a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

Ellsbury homered in the first - his 10th of the season - and added a two-run double in the fourth as the Red Sox erased a 3-2 deficit to win for the second straight night.

Youkilis hit his 12th homer of the season in the second, and Darnell McDonald and Yamaico Navarro also had RBIs as Boston moved to within one-half game of the New York Yankees in the American League East.

Tim Wakefield (5-3) overcame a shaky start and allowed three runs, nine hits and struck out a season-high seven in seven innings.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his 19th save despite making it interesting for the second straight night. He struck out Eric Thames to end the game with a runner on.

Yunel Escobar had four hits for the Blue Jays, including an RBI single in the ninth. Jose Bautista had two hits and two RBIs.

Adam Lind’s RBI single in the third gave the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead before Boston scored four times in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Ricky Romero (7-8) allowed six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Boston played without first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who missed the game with a stiff neck. The game was delayed 41 minutes by rain in the eighth.
