White Sox 3, Red Sox 1
A.J. Pierzynski broke a tie with a two-run homer in the seventh and Gavin Floyd pitched seven strong innings as the host Chicago White Sox climbed back to .500 with a 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
Paul Konerko had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the White Sox (52-52), who remain three games behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.
The Red Sox dropped back-to-back games for the first time this month.
Tim Wakefield (6-4) walked Carlos Quentin to lead off the seventh and Pierzynski stayed on an 0-1 knuckleball, reaching down and driving it into the stands in right field to put Chicago on top.
Wakefield was denied his 200th career win.
Floyd (9-9) dominated the vaunted Boston offense. He yielded one run, three hits and struck out six to win his third straight start.
Matt Thornton pitched a perfect eighth and Sergio Santos retired the side in order in the ninth for his 22nd save.
Dustin Pedroia went 0-for-4 to snap his 25-game hitting streak and Adrian Gonzalez sat out with a stiff neck for the Red Sox.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered in the third for Boston.
