Indians 9, Red Sox 6
Asdrubal Cabrera homered twice to lead the Cleveland Indians to 9-6 victory over the host Boston Red Sox on Monday night.
Cleveland pulled to within two games of idle Detroit in the American League Central.
Cabrera hit two-run homers in the sixth and eighth innings as the Indians pulled out the see-saw affair.
Cabrera’s second homer - his 19th of the season - came off Boston reliever Daniel Bard, who had not allowed a run in 26 1/3 innings. Umpires correctly ruled Cabrera’s blast a home run after the video tape revealed the ball bounced off a fan and caromed back onto the field to snap a 5-5 tie in the eighth.
Bard (1-5) allowed two hits and three runs in one-third of an inning. Rafael Perez (4-1) picked up the win in relief of Josh Tomlin. He pitched a scoreless seventh after Tomlin allowed five runs on 10 hits in six innings.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Carl Crawford homered for the Red Sox, who led 3-1 after three innings. Saltalamacchia’s two-run shot made it 5-5 in the sixth.
Jason Kipnis also homered for the Indians.
