Red Sox 4, Indians 3

Jacoby Ellsbury homered to center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning - his second walk-off hit in two nights - to give the Boston Red Sox a 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Ellsbury's single Tuesday gave the Red Sox a 3-2 win. He connected Wednesday off Cleveland reliever Joe Smith (2-2),

Jonathan Papelbon (4-0) struck out one in a hitless ninth en route to his second win in two nights.

Trailing 2-0, the Indians tied it in the fourth on a solo home run by Jason Kipnis and an RBI double by Travis Hafner. It was the fourth straight game in which the rookie Kipnis has homered.

Boston’s Tim Wakefield failed in his second bid to win his 200th game. Wakefield, who turned 45 on Tuesday, is the oldest active player in the majors. He allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings and struck out six.

The Red Sox' Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He is hitting .500 during that span. Gonzalez leads the majors with a .357 average.
