Adrian Gonzalez homered twice, and Marco Scutaro and Dustin Pedroia belted two-run doubles as the Boston Red Sox slugged their way to an 11-5 victory over the host Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia and rookie Ryan Lavarnway added RBI doubles for Boston, which pulled into a first-place tie with the New York Yankees atop the American League East.
John Lackey (12-9) collected his seventh win in eight decisions despite yielding four runs for the third straight outing. He also allowed seven hits and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings.
Gonzalez went deep for the first time since July 30 with a two-run homer in the first. His 20th homer of the season - a solo shot in the fourth - gave Boston a 7-4 lead.
Josh Hamilton homered and drove in two runs, and Ian Kinsler also went deep for Texas, which saw its lead in the AL West over the Los Angeles Angels trimmed to 3 1/2 games.
Colby Lewis (11-9) permitted seven runs on nine hits in six innings.
