Red Sox 6, Rangers 0

Adrian Gonzalez belted two more home runs and Andrew Miller pitched six solid innings to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 6-0 win over the host Texas Rangers on Thursday night.

With the win, the Red Sox maintained their one-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East race. Texas, which lost the final three contests of the four-game set against Boston, leads the Los Angeles Angels by two games in the AL West. The Rangers will begin a three-game series against their closest pursuers on Friday.

Gonzalez, who had been in a prolonged power drought, has hit five homers in the past three games. The All-Star homered in the first inning to give Boston a 1-0 lead. He then cracked a two-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.

David Ortiz belted his 25th homer of the season for Boston, which completed a 6-2 road trip.

Miller improved to 6-1 on the season. He allowed just three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings while fanning six.

Alexi Ogando (12-6) took the loss for the Rangers. Ogando was tagged for six runs in four innings.
