Rangers 10, Red Sox 0
Derek Holland pitched seven shutout innings, and the Texas Rangers belted three home runs and knocked Boston out of first place with a 10-0 victory over the host Red Sox on Friday.
Ian Kinsler homered for the third time in two games as Texas opened up a 5-0 lead in the second.
David Murphy and Elvis Andrus also homered for the Rangers, who increased their lead to 4½ games over the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West.
The loss, coupled with New York's 3-2 victory over Toronto on Friday, dropped Boston one-half game behind the Yankees in the AL East. The Red Sox, though, lead the wild card standings by nine games over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Holland (13-5) allowed two hits - both singles. He fanned six and didn’t allow a walk.
Jacoby Ellsbury and Adrian Gonzalez were the only Boston players to reach base, and Holland picked Ellsbury off first.
The Red Sox' David Ortiz had his 15-game hitting streak stopped.
Boston starter Andrew Miller (6-2) allowed six runs, five hits and four walks in 1 1/3 innings.
