Orioles 5, Tigers 1
Brian Roberts hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, helping Baltimore remain unbeaten with a 5-1 victory over visiting Detroit on Monday afternoon.
The Orioles broke open a 1-1 game in the fifth when Roberts took a pitch from Detroit starter Rick Porcello (0-1) over the wall in right-center for his second homer of the season. Matt Wieters singled home Nick Markakis later in the frame to stretch the margin to 5-1.
Baltimore starter Jake Arrieta (1-0) scattered six hits and two walks over six innings, yielding just one run. Jason Berken and Koji Uehara combined to keep Detroit off the board the rest of the way, allowing just one baserunner over the final three frames.
Markakis finished with three of the Orioles' nine hits. Will Rhymes was 2-for-3 in defeat, driving in the Tigers' lone run in the third.
