Indians 4, Orioles 2
Grady Sizemore, playing in his first game in nearly a year, hit a home run and Fausto Carmona allowed two runs in seven innings, leading the Cleveland Indians to their seventh straight home win, 4-2, over Baltimore on Sunday.
The Indians (11-4) never trailed in sweeping the three-game series and remained in first place in the American League Central. The Orioles (6-8) have lost eight of 10 after starting the season 4-0 and have been outscored 49-17 during their seven-game losing streak.
Sizemore, coming off micofracture knee surgery, was activated before the
game and made his first appearance since May 16, 2010. He batted
leadoff and played center field. His solo home run in the third was his
first since Aug. 27, 2009. Sizemore also doubled in the fifth.
Carmona (1-2) allowed five hits and one earned run. He struck out five
and walked one. It was the first time in four starts that his teammates had scored a run while he was on the mound. Chris Perez pitched the ninth for his fifth save in five
chances.
Carlos Santana and Travis Hafner added solo homers for Cleveland and Travis Buck had an RBI single in the fourth. Santana's second-inning homer snapped an 0-for-23 slump and opened the scoring.
Baltimore starter Brad Bergesen (0-2) allowed two runs and six hits in five innings to take the loss.
The Orioles were held to six hits, three coming from Brian Roberts. Derrek Lee's double play ground ball scored a run in the fourth. Luke Scott hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
