Orioles 5, Reds 4 (12)

Derrek Lee homered to lead off the bottom of the 12th inning as the Baltimore Orioles earned a 5-4 home victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

After the Reds failed to capitalize despite putting two runners in scoring position in the top of the inning, Lee sent the Camden Yards crowd home happy with a blast to left field off Cincinnati reliever Jose Arredondo (0-3). It was the fifth homer of the season for Lee, but his first since May 8.

Mike Gonzalez (1-1) earned the win with an inning of scoreless relief.

Down 4-0 after four innings, Cincinnati rallied over the next two frames to draw even. Brandon Phillips, who came into the game with just seven RBIs in June, smacked a two-run double for the Reds in the fifth inning to kick off the comeback.

Votto knocked him home with a run-scoring single, and Paul Janish evened things up with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.

Baltimore starter Chris Jakubauskas allowed three runs on five hits over five innings, walking three and striking out three. Cincinnati counterpart Edinson Volquez allowed four runs on seven hits through 4 1/3 frames, with five walks and four strikeouts.
