White Sox 6, Rays 1
Paul Konerko hit a pair of solo home runs and Gavin Floyd handcuffed the Tampa Bay lineup as the Chicago White Sox coasted to a 6-1 home win on Sunday afternoon.
Floyd (1-0) struck out eight and yielded just four hits over eight innings, with his lone hiccup of the day coming on a sixth-inning throwing error that produced the only run for Tampa Bay (1-8).
The White Sox (6-3) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on solo home runs by Gordon Beckham and Konerko, then added two more runs in the second when Brent Morel doubled home a run and then scored on a base hit by Juan Pierre.
After Chicago chased Tampa Bay starter Jeff Niemann (0-2) in the third inning on an RBI single by A.J. Pierzynski, Konerko clubbed his second solo shot of the day to left field in the fifth to make it 6-0.
