White Sox 9, Rays 2

Paul Konerko had three hits and drove in two runs and Juan Pierre scored three times as the Chicago White Sox snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 9-2 road triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.

Carlos Quentin belted a two-run double and Omar Vizquel and A.J. Pierzynski also drove in a pair of runs as Chicago (8-11) raced out to an early lead and never looked back.

The offensive outburst was a welcome change for the struggling White Sox, who have not owned a lead in any of their previous five games.

Gavin Floyd (2-1) made sure the advantage stood up by allowing just two runs and seven hits while striking out seven in six innings. Will Ohman and Sergio Santos both struck out two in one scoreless inning of work, while Jeff Gray retired the side in order in the ninth.

Sam Fuld had a two-run single to shallow right field in the fourth inning for Tampa Bay (9-10), which fell for just the second time in 10 games.

Jeff Niemann (0-3) allowed six runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
