Tigers 3, White Sox 0
Max Scherzer threw eight shutout innings and outdueled John Danks as the Detroit Tigers blanked the slumping Chicago White Sox, 3-0, to finish off a three-game weekend sweep on Sunday afternoon.
Scherzer (4-0) scattered four hits and three walks against Chicago, which was held without a run for the second straight game and the third time in seven days. The right-hander struck out seven batters and never allowed a runner past second base. Jose Valverde worked the ninth inning for his fifth save.
The Tigers (12-10) got on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI groundout by Alex Avila, then stretched the lead to three in the sixth when Brandon Inge doubled in a run and came around to score on a double by Austin Jackson.
Danks (0-3) lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and striking out eight for the White Sox (8-14), who lost for the 10th time in their last 11 games.
