White Sox 1, Indians 0

Jake Peavy tossed a three-hit shutout to outduel Justin Masterson as the Chicago White Sox eked out a 1-0 home win over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.

Making just his second start since returning from a preseason injury, Peavy (1-0) allowed just three singles while striking out six without a walk.

The only Cleveland baserunner to advance past first base was Shin-Soo Choo, who stole second in the seventh inning.

Chicago scored the game's only run in the first inning against Justin Masterson (5-2) when Juan Pierre led off with a double, moved to third on Omar Vizquel’s base hit and came home on a sacrifice fly by Adam Dunn.

Masterson allowed just three more hits and two walks the rest of the way while pitching the full eight innings for Cleveland. He struck out eight.
