Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer in the ninth inning lifted Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers to their fifth win in the last six games, a 4-2 road victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday evening.
Austin Jackson led off the top of the ninth with a triple against Jesse Crain (2-2), who retired the next two hitters before Cabrera took a 1-2 pitch over the right-field wall. Jose Valverde pitched the ninth for his 15th save in relief of Verlander (6-3), who has not lost since April 27.
Brennan Boesch gave Detroit a two-run lead in the first inning with a home run to right against Edwin Jackson. Chicago's Gordon Beckham tied it in the fifth with a two-run shot.
Verlander struck out seven while scattering seven hits over eight innings of work. Jackson gave up seven hits and walked four in six innings while striking out five.
