Nationals 2, White Sox 1
Danny Espinosa's two-run homer in the seventh inning lifted Washington to a 2-1 road victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.
Chicago starter Philip Humber (7-4) held the Nationals hitless through the five innings and continued cruising until he walked Michael Morse with two out in the seventh. Espinosa then drilled a 1-1 pitch over the right-field wall to put the Nationals in front.
That was just enough for Livan Hernandez (5-8), who labored through 6 2/3 innings for the victory. Hernandez scattered eight hits and two walks, striking out nine while throwing a season-high 123 pitches. Tyler Clippard, Sean Burnett and Drew Storen kept the White Sox at bay the rest of the way, with Storen picking up his 19th save.
Humber left after 6 2/3 innings having yielded three hits and three walks. He finished with four strikeouts. Paul Konerko, who drove in the lone White Sox run with a third-inning single, gave Chicago its best shot at a comeback win when he flew out to the warning track with a runner on to end the seventh.
