White Sox 5, Tigers 0
Edwin Jackson tossed a shutout, and Carlos Quentin homered as the Chicago White Sox posted a 5-0 win over the host Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Jackson (6-7) allowed nine hits and walked two but was in control throughout against his former team, allowing just one baserunner to reach third base. He got Detroit designated hitter Victor Martinez to ground into a pair of double plays, including one that ended the eighth inning when Martinez represented the tying run.
Jackson needed just 101 pitches to get through his first complete game since throwing a no-hitter against Tampa Bay last June 25.
Quentin put the White Sox on the board with a second-inning solo homer against Max Scherzer (10-5). Paul Konerko added an RBI hit with two out in the third, and Chicago broke it open with three runs against Jose Valverde in the ninth. Gordon Beckham and Juan Pierre each singled home a run.
Scherzer took the loss despite working eight strong innings, scattering eight hits while striking out six without a walk.
Chicago lost a run in the seventh inning when it was ruled that Beckham left third base early when tagging on a flyout by Pierre, who finished with four hits.
