Angels 8, White Sox 0
Jered Weaver struck out eight in seven shutout innings in his first start since signing a contract extension to lead the Los Angeles Angels to an 8-0 victory over the visiting Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
Weaver (15-6) allowed four hits and two walks one day after inking a five-year, $85 million extension as the Angels won their season-best sixth straight game and moved within 2 1/2 games of Texas in the American League West.
Erick Aybar had three RBIs, Jeff Mathis delivered a two-run double and Torii Hunter homered for the Angels. Alberto Callaspo and Bobby Abreu added run-scoring doubles.
Weaver lowered his American League-leading ERA to 2.03 while winning for the first time since July 26. He had been 0-2 over his previous four starts.
Alexei Ramirez had two of Chicago’s five hits
Zach Stewart (1-3) gave up seven runs and seven hits in six innings for Chicago, which remained 6 1/2 games behind Detroit in the AL Central.
