White Sox 8, Indians 1
Paul Konerko hit a grand slam and Brent Morel belted a three-run shot in a seven-run seventh inning, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 8-1 win over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Thursday night
The win moved Chicago within 8 1/2 games of first-place Detroit in the American League Central. Cleveland is 10 games out and has lost four straight.
The game was tied 1-1 going into the seventh. David Huff (2-4) started the inning by walking Alexei Ramirez, who took second on Alex Rios' single. Huff was pulled after striking out Tyler Flowers, and Morel hit the first pitch from Frank Herrmann into the left field seats for a 4-1 lead.
The White Sox loaded the bases and Konerko hit his 29th homer of the season off Josh Judy.
Morel also hit a solo homer off Huff in the third.
Jim Thome's RBI single gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the first, the only run Gavin Floyd allowed in 5 1/3 innings.
Juan Pierre collected his 2,000th career hit with a third-inning single.
Matt Thornton (1-4) pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win.
