Royals 2, White Sox 1
Jarrod Dyson's two-run double in the sixth inning lifted the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 victory over the host Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
Dyson's first RBIs of the season came on a sharply-hit ball to right field off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd (12-13), bringing home Lorenzo Cain and Chris Getz. Dyson came into the contest hitting just .172.
That was enough offense for Luis Mendoza (2-0), who limited the White Sox to a run on five hits over 7 2/3 innings. Mendoza, who is auditioning for a spot in the 2012 starting rotation, has allowed just two earned runs over 14 2/3 frames for the Royals this season.
Greg Holland recorded the final four outs - all via strikeout - for his fourth save.
Paul Konerko drove in Chicago's only run for the second time in the series, trimming the deficit with an RBI double in the eighth.
Floyd allowed just three hits while matching a season high with 10 strikeouts.
