Yankees 4, Twins 3

Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez smacked two-run homers as the New York Yankees continued their hit parade with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Monday.

The Bombers have launched a team-record 11 homers through the first four games.

The Twins (1-3) were out for revenge after being swept by the Yankees (3-1) in back-to-back American League Division Series, but it was New York which came out hot and took a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Minnesota starter Scott Baker (0-1) settled in after that, but the damage had already been done. The righthander allowed four runs on four hits and walked four in six innings.

None of those hits belonged to the top of the Yankees’ order as Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter went a combined 0 for 7. Both are hitting less than .150.

The most unproven Yankees’ starter ended up getting the worst run support so far this season, but Ivan Nova (1-0) still earned the victory. The 24-year-old held the Twins hitless through three innings and exited after six, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Fatigue will be a prime concern for Nova as he makes the transition to full-time starter, but he retired the Twins in order in his final inning. The bullpen took it from there and allowed only two hits, capped by Mariano Rivera's third save.
