Mets 2, Yankees 1
R.A. Dickey pitched six solid innings and Daniel Murphy's solo homer in the sixth lifted the visiting New York Mets to a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday night in the first game of the 2011 Subway Series.
After watching his teammates produce back-to-back shutouts, Dickey (2-5) kept the momentum going as he allowed one run on four hits and struck out six for his first win since April 3.
Francisco Rodriguez tied the major-league lead with his 15th save for the Mets, who won their third straight and are at .500 for the first time since April 9.
Justin Turner went 3-for-4 and became the second Mets’ rookie to drive in a run in six straight games. His double off Freddy Garcia made it 1-1 in the fourth.
Garcia (2-4) was the tough-luck loser - he allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings. Mark Teixeira gave him a lead with a solo homer in the third, but the lineup went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
The Mets are trying to win only their third Subway Series since interleague play started in 1997.
