Yankees 5, Athletics 0
Bartolo Colon tossed a four-hit shutout and Mark Teixeira continued his power surge as the New York Yankees ended the Oakland Athletics' season-high four-game winning streak with a 5-0 road victory on Monday afternoon.
Robinson Cano doubled, tripled and drove in a run for the Yankees, who are 2-2 on their nine-game West Coast road trip.
Colon (3-3) limited Oakland to a double and three singles and struck out six without issuing a walk en route to his ninth career shutout. It was the 32nd career complete game for the portly righthander and first since throwing a shutout for Los Angeles in 2006.
Teixeira gave Colon all the offensive support he needed in the first inning with a two-run homer off Trevor Cahill. Teixeira, who tied Curtis Granderson for the team lead with 16 blasts, has gone deep in seven of his last 11 games.
Cano made it 3-0 later in the inning with an RBI double while Derek Jeter and Francisco Cervelli hit sacrifice flies in the seventh and ninth, respectively, to complete the scoring.
Cahill (6-3) surrendered four runs in 6 2/3 innings en route to his third consecutive loss. The 23-year old, who fell to 0-3 lifetime against New York, has allowed four earned runs just two times in 12 starts this year.
