Yankees 4, A's 2: 10 straight wins against Oakland for NYY
The New York Yankees stretched their winning streak over Oakland to 10 games on Wednesday, registering a 4-2 victory over the host Athletics to complete a three-game sweep.
Former Oakland star Nick Swisher hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to help New York beat the Athletics for the 24th time in 28 games.
A.J. Burnett (6-3) gave up two runs and three hits in seven innings and retired 13 of the last 14 hitters he faced.
Burnett allowed a two-run homer in the first to Josh Willingham and then gave up just one hit over the next six innings.
Joba Chamberlain pitched the eighth and Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth in the ninth for his 14th save this season and 573rd of his career.
Alex Rodriguez singled and Robinson Cano walked to start the fourth before Swisher hit a 2-0 pitch from Oakland left-hander Gio Gonzalez (6-3) into the left-field stands to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.
Derek Jeter led off the game with a double and scored on Rodriguez’s double for New York.
David DeJesus doubled in the Oakland first and scored when Willingham hit his fourth homer in the last 11 games.
Gonzalez (5-3) gave up four runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, while losing for the first time since April 25. Gonzalez struck out four and walked four.
