Yankees 4, Cubs 3
Curtis Granderson broke a sixth-inning tie with a sacrifice fly and the New York Yankees held on for a 4-3 road win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon.
Granderson, who also scored on Robinson Cano's RBI double in the third inning, broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth when his fly ball to right field against Ryan Dempster (5-6) plated Eduardo Nunez. The Yankees added another run on a Nunez RBI double in the top of the ninth, which proved critical when Reed Johnson opened the bottom of the inning with a solo homer.
New York closer Mariano Rivera allowed the tying run to reach base but erased it on a double play before striking out Jeff Baker to secure the save. A.J. Burnett (7-5) allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings and picked up the win. He struck out eight while walking three.
Dempster labored through 5 1/3 innings for Chicago, allowing eight hits and walking a season-high six batters.
