Rays 7, Indians 4
James Shields continued his dominating pitching, allowing two runs in seven innings and leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
The Rays, who broke Cleveland's 14-game home winning streak Wednesday, are the majors' best road team with a 13-5 record.
The Rays (22-15) scored four times in the second and sent Justin Masterson to his first loss of the season. Reid Brignac's two-run double, his first extra-base hit in 82 at-bats this season, and Sam Fuld's two-run single gave Tampa Bay an early 4-0 lead.
Evan Longoria added a two-run double in the ninth for the Rays.
Shields (4-1) held the Indians (23-13) scoreless until the sixth. The righthander, who also picked off two baserunners, defeated Cleveland for the first time in seven career starts. He struck out seven and walked one.
Shields is 4-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 47 1/3 innings in his last six starts.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a leadoff homer and Orlando Cabrera had an RBI double for Cleveland.
Masterson (5-1) allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Both teams played without their star center fielders. Tampa Bay's B.J. Upton began serving his two-game suspension for arguing with an umpire last week. Cleveland's Grady Sizemore missed his second straight game with a bruised right knee.
