Brewers 5, Rays 1
Zack Greinke rebounded from his worst start of the season and matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts, and Yuniesky Betancourt homered as the host Milwaukee Brewers posted a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
Milwaukee avoided losing consecutive games at home for the first time this season and put an end to the Rays’ four-game winning streak. The Brewers own the best home record in baseball (26-10) and are the only team yet to lose two straight at home.
Greinke (7-2), the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner, made sure the Brewers' impressive track record at home continued. The righthander, who was rocked for eight runs - six earned - in 5 1/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, allowed one run and four hits in seven innings Tuesday.
Greinke outdueled Jeremy Hellickson (7-6), who yielded two runs and three hits in six innings.
Betancourt’s fourth homer of the season in the second barely cleared the left-center field fence and gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead.
Tampa Bay cut the lead to 2-1 in the seventh on an RBI single from John Jasso, but Milwaukee responded with three runs in the bottom half. Ryan Braun, who missed Monday's loss with a respiratory infection, had a two-run single and Prince Fielder drove in a run.
