Rays 4, Reds 3
Evan Longoria belted a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Longoria lined his 10th homer into the left-field stands off reliever Logan Ondrusek (3-3) as the Rays won for the ninth time in 11 games. It was also Tampa Bay's first win over Cincinnati in eight tries.
Johnny Damon, who homered in the fourth, hit a two-out, two-run bloop single to give the Rays a 3-2 lead in the eighth before Jay Bruce tied it in the ninth with a solo shot off closer Kyle Farnsworth (3-1). It was Bruce’s first homer since June 1.
Joey Votto had capped a two-run rally in the eighth with an RBI double to the left-field corner off Rays starter David Price to give the Reds a 2-1 lead.
Price allowed six hits, two runs and equaled a career high with 12 strikeouts. It was the second straight game Price had 10 or more strikeouts and the fourth this season.
Reds starter Johnny Cueto, who has won three straight decisions, allowed four hits and three runs in 7 2/3 innings.
