Athletics 8, Rays 0

Brandon McCarthy pitched eight shutout innings and David DeJesus belted two solo homers as the Oakland Athletics cruised to an 8-0 victory over the host Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

McCarthy (5-5) allowed five hits, struck out five and didn't walk a batter to win his fourth straight decision – two of those against the Rays.

Coco Crisp had two hits, scored twice and became the first player to steal four bases in a game against Tampa Bay in its history. Oakland stole seven overall - also the most by an opponent against the Rays.

DeJesus led off the second with his first homer since May 31 to start the scoring. Jemile Weeks (two hits) and Adam Rosales also had two RBIs apiece for Oakland, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Hideki Matsui singled in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Tampa Bay’s B.J. Upton had reached base in seven straight at-bats coming into the game - one short of the team record, but went 0-for-4.

Alex Cobb (3-2), who lost his second straight, allowed a career-high five runs in 4 1/3 innings.
