Blue Jays 3, Angels 2
Jayson Nix hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning to help the Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-2 victory over the host Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
Nix hit a two-out offering from Ervin Santana over the left-field fence for his second homer of the season as Toronto erased a 2-0 deficit.
Jon Rauch gave up a two-out single by Hank Conger in the ninth before striking out Peter Bourjos to record his second save.
Toronto (5-2) tied the game in the sixth when Adam Lind’s two-out double to left-center field drove in John McDonald and Jose Bautista.
The Angels (3-4) led 2-0 after three innings. Bautista’s error on Torii Hunter’s first-inning single led to Bobby Abreu scoring from first, and Maicer Izturis scored on Hunter’s single in the third inning.
Octavio Dotel (1-0) got the win with a perfect inning of relief in the seventh. Dotel struck out two in his Toronto debut.
Santana (0-1) didn’t allow a hit until Aaron Hill’s one-out single in the fifth. He gave up three runs and six hits in eight innings, struck out seven and walked one.
Toronto starter Kyle Drabek gave up two runs - one earned - and six hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked four.
Vernon Wells was 0 for 4 and struck out twice in his first game against Toronto, the team he spent 12 seasons with before being traded to the Angels in the off-season.
