Indians 3, Reds 1
Michael Brantley hit a three-run homer, and seven Cleveland pitchers combined to stop Cincinnati's offense as the Indians defeated the host Reds 3-1 on Saturday.
The Indians have won all five games against the Reds this season. Brantley homered on a 2-0 pitch from Homer Bailey (3-3) in the third inning.
Joey Votto hit a leadoff homer, his 12th, off Tony Sipp in the eighth for Cincinnati's run.
Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona left the game in the third with a strained right quadriceps after falling while running to first base. Frank Herrmann, who hadn't pitched since June 20, replaced Carmona and threw three shutout innings for the win in his first decision of the season.
Cleveland's bullpen stopped three late rallies. Joe Smith struck out Brandon Phillips with the bases loaded to end the seventh. Chad Durbin fanned Chris Heisey with two on to end the eighth.
Vinnie Pestano pitched the ninth for his first save. He struck out Edgar Renteria, but Drew Stubbs drew a one-out walk. After Phillips struck out, Votto singled, but Scott Rolen struck out to end the game. Pestano was filling in for Chris Perez, who is on the bereavement list.
