Twins 2, Indians 1
Danny Valencia's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.
Minnesota trails Cleveland and Detroit by six games in the American League Central.
The Twins could not manage anything against Cleveland starter Justin Masterson, who scattered five hits over 7 2/3 innings and left with a 1-0 lead.
Indians closer Chris Perez (2-5) was not as effective. With one out in the ninth, Mauer walked and Cuddyer doubled. After Jim Thome was intentionally walked, Valencia blooped a liner to left to drive in Mauer and Cuddyer.
Valencia roomed with Perez for two years at the University of Miami.
Glen Perkins (2-1) got the win in relief.
Cleveland outfielder Travis Buck left the game in the fifth after getting hit in the head by a 91-mph fastball from Francisco Liriano. He was attended to by trainers and left with a head contusion.
