Rangers 5, Indians 3
Elvis Andrus had a two-run single in a five-run eighth inning and the Texas Rangers rallied for a 5-3 victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Sunday night.
David Murphy also had an RBI single to help Texas maintain a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels atop the American League West.
Darren Oliver (4-5) worked two-thirds of an inning in relief of Colby Lewis for the win and Mike Adams earned his first save by working a perfect ninth.
Indians starter Josh Tomlin carried a three-hit shutout into the eighth inning but allowed a walk and a single before giving way to reliever Joe Smith, who failed to retire a batter.
Smith (2-3) was charged with three runs on three hits. Michael Brantley homered and tripled for Cleveland, which remained four games behind division-leading Detroit in the AL Central.
Lewis allowed three runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings. He left after surrendering his AL-worst 28th homer to Brantley in the eighth.
