Tigers 8, Athletics 4 (10)

Brennan Boesch's two-run double ignited a seven-run 10th inning as the Detroit Tigers posted and 8-4 victory over the host Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Miguel Cabrera’s ninth-inning homer forced the extra inning and Detroit evened its record at 7-7 as Jim Leyland became the 19th manager in history to reach 1,500 career victories.

Boesch had three hits, including the double to right field with the bases loaded in the 10th against Brian Fuentes (0-2) to drive in Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta.

Victor Martinez had a run-scoring single, a throwing error by Oakland third baseman Andy LaRoche accounted for two runs, an infield grounder plated another and Avila capped the big inning with a run-scoring single to make a winner out of reliever Brayan Villarreal (1-0).

The Athletics (6-8) led 1-0 until Cabrera hit a leadoff homer to right-center field in the ninth against Fuentes, who blew his first save opportunity in six chances.

Oakland’s lone run off Detroit starter Rick Porcello came in the third inning when Coco Crisp singled, stole second and scored on David DeJesus’ two-out single to right-center field. Porcello gave up seven hits in six innings.

Athletics starter Brandon McCarthy pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings. He allowed six hits, one walk and struck out seven.

DeJesus had a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th as part of a three-hit night. Kurt Suzuki also had three hits for Oakland.
